recorded history of nearly 2500 years, proof of its flourishing state in Palaeolithic and Neolithic age, hundreds of temples, monuments scattered all over, beautiful beaches, gorgeous waterfalls, lakes and lagoons, varied wild life and the most colourful people, Orissa still remains in obscurity. It is rather unfortunate that this exotic land cradled between the sunlit water of the Bay of Bengal and the lush green forested blue–hued hills of the Eastern Ghats finds less visitors despite its capability to serve everything on a platter to visitors, whether he is an art lover or a nature lover, a wild life enthusiast or an ornithologist, a social anthropologist or a serious sociologist, a computer savvy business tycoon or a leisure seeker.
With the change in people’s perception, and the new global order, people’s attention towards Orissa has changed considerably. With her beguiling charm, mountains and forests, rural tranquility and 482 kms of coastline, Orissa, spread over an area of 1,56,707 sq.kms has everything expected of a Dream destination. All it needs is an admiring, caring and friendly travel and tour expert to disseminate information about this beautiful hot spot in the sub-continent.
Tribal Aresas: Steeped in the mystery that surrounds their own traditional ways, the tribes of Orissa continue to be source of interest not only to social anthropologists and sociologists but also for the lay visitors coming to the state. With sixty-two distinct tribal groups constituting 25percent of the total population occupying nearly one third of the habitable area, the tribes of Orissa are the most colourful people. The most important tribes of Orissa are the Kandhas, Bondas, Koyas, Sauras, Gadabas, Gondas, Ho, Santhalas, Mundas and Juangas. Each tribe has its own music, dance and rich socio-cultural traits. Though these tribes live in almost all the districts, yet most of them live in the forest areas of Kandhamala, Koraput, Raygada, Malkangiri Mayurbhanja, and Keonjhar districts.
