Situated in the Chandaka-Dampada Sanctuary, this tourist spot is one of the major attractions during the winter vacations. Just 25 kms away from the temple city, Deras offers breath-taking views from the hill top cottages. Surrounded in complete serenity, it is a much sought after place for daylong breaks. It is full of greenery, small hillocks, cool water, narrow roadway amongst the wilderness of the forest and away from the din and bustle of the city adds up to the beauty of spending quality time with one’s near and dear ones.
With children around, one can go around for boating as well as visit the Chandaka Forest and Elephant Sanctuary to enjoy and while away the time when the favourite delicacies is being cooked amidst joy and laughter. Both the children and the adults can see the wild life animals like elephant, monkey, deer, leopards, bear etc. Even one can have the experience of rock climbing too.
If at all you want to widen your knowledge on medicinal plants, here is a chance to know more about it just before you reach Deras at Godibari Park. The park encompasses almost 34 varieties of medicinal plants, which the tourists can even buy. Moreover, the children can enjoy their time in the park playing games and getting elephant rides along with rope and wall climbing. Apart from this, there is an Eco Theatre where generally a 15 minutes video clipping on Deras and Chandaka Sanctuary is being played.
The Park also has a small berry garden. It also has preserved various dry leaves, footprints of different animals, eggs etc which will surely add up to your knowledge base.
There are also facilities for overnight stay if one wants to. In Deras itself, there are two bamboo cottages where each cottage can host 2-3 people at a cost of Rs 500/- only. There are three bungalows where each room costs Rs 300/- per day. Even the Godibari Park has rooms with the rent ranging from Rs 1000/- to Rs 1500/- per day. Accommodating here allows the visitors to cook their own food too with facilities available there.
The best time to visit this place is during the winter holidays while enjoying the cool weather and the sunrays adding to the beauty of the sight.
